Ashes To Ashes: Tyrannosaurus Hunt

ALEX Drake walks with dinosaurs in this week’s visit to 1981.
We’ve already seen her dead on a 2008 slab in the trailer, with that single bullet wound to the forehead.
There’s more to see as those visions and flashbacks continue in Ashes To Ashes.
Episode five – surely we can’t be over half-way already? – is destined to be known as “The Gay Episode”.
It’s yet another great hour of TV. Well, 56 minutes and 13 seconds if you’re being pedantic.
Dan Fredenburgh guests as ruthless killer and drug dealer Simon Neary with Russell Tovey as his young boyfriend Marcus.
Highlights? There are many:
*The fury of Gene Hunt, making his mark.

*Confused Chris given some great lines by writer Mark Greig, who was also responsible for last week’s episode.
*The car chase which features in the opening titles.
*Chris and Shaz’s private investigation.
*Ray in a green track suit, with Chris in blue.
*Profound words from Shaz in Luigi’s.
*Ray as a “macho Mata Hari”.
*Gene’s mention of a Manchester City legend.
*The Guv’s eye for detail before Alex embarks on a spot of role play.
*A very intriguing end titles trailer for episode six.
Just three episodes to go after tomorrow night…
Still no official word on a second series but I’d expect it to be confirmed any time soon.
My drive to Germany and back last weekend included a sighting of a red Audi Quattro.
Sadly, it was not of the 1981 vintage.

But I did spot someone who might fill Nelson’s or Luigi’s shoes should a German broadcaster ever decide to remake Life On Mars or Ashes To Ashes.
Ashes To Ashes continues on BBC1 at 9pm tomorrow.

Hi Janet – difficult to compare but up to the same standard, so long as you remember that Gene and the boys really are dinosaurs in this episode. I also get the feeling that some of the eps may have been switched around in this first series.

Hey, Ian….perhaps you could shed some light on this one–esp. the music lover that you are! What is up with the BBC not putting up next week’s playlist on the episode guide? I was totally gutted, I was looking forward to some good downloads in anticipation of Episode 6!

Hi Jen – it’s either a simple oversight which may be rectified or someone has decided to stop publishing the playlist in advance.
I always try not to give too much away about each episode as the cast, crew and production team obviously put a massive amount of work into the series and that should never be spoiled.
But I have featured one track on today’s latest blog – Ashes To Ashes: Ghosts Of My Life – and you might also want to check out the likes of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love, Golden Brown by The Stranglers and Kim Wilde’s Kids In America, which would no doubt put a smile on the face of DC Chris Skelton.
