Street Stars 2007

CORONATION Street stars leave the cobbles behind for two highlights of ITV’s Winter season of programmes.
As first revealed in today’s MEN, three Rovers regulars will feature in the second series of Soapstar Superstar.
Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Tupele Dorgu (Kelly Crabtree) and Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) are among 11 contenders who will sing for survival early in the New Year.
I was also at the Mayfair Hotel in London this afternoon for the launch of ITV’s new season, including interviews with some of those who will star on screen in 2007.
The normally publicity shy Anne Kirkbride is one of three famous faces taking part in a new series which has the working title of You Don’t Know You’re Born.

The Oldham-born actress, who has played Deirdre Barlow for 34 years, delves into the history of her family by doing the jobs her ancestors once performed.
She’s filmed working on a farm in Ireland – where tears flow – ploughing a field and feeding the animals.
Anne, 52, also follows in the footsteps of great grandfather Thomas Kirkbride, who in the 1880s was one of the first commercial photographers in Oldham.
ITV’s Director of Factual Programmes Alison Sharman told me: “It was very hard to get her out of her Coronation Street commitments.
“But she was genuinely really interested and engaged with the idea of the series. She put her heart and soul into it.”
Anne’s personal journey is made all the more poignant by the fact that her father Jack died in October at the age of 83.
Actors Ken Stott and Alan Davies also investigate the history of their families with guidance from experts and social historians in ITV1’s answer to BBC1 hit Who Do You Think You Are?
There’s a story on Pg 3 of tomorrow’s MEN.
