IS there a stronger female character on British TV today than Ros Myers?
Or a better boss than Harry Pearce?
Spooks continues to thrill and surprise in episodes to be screened tomorrow and the week after.
A jaw-dropping moment for Harry (Peter Firth).
Ros (Hermione Norris) goes above and beyond the call of duty.
The look on Jo’s (Miranda Raison) face as she deals with an escalating crisis.
Connie’s (Gemma Jones) tacky souvenir.
The Spooks Microwave Cook Book.
Malcolm (Hugh Simon) faces the credit crunch.
And just what is the significance of the word “pilgrim”?
Hermione continues to cheer the soul as team leader Ros.
Harder and icier than ever, with just the occasional hint of human frailty bubbling away underneath.
I’ll think of the debt we ordinary mortals owe her and the rest of MI5 every time I fill in my tax return.
Episode three on BBC1 at 9pm tomorrow – first shown on BBC3 last week – gives Alex Lanipekun a chance to flex his acting muscles as Ben.
It also features the appearance of Richard Johnson as Harry’s old mentor Bernard Qualtrough.
Episode four follows on BBC3 at 10.30pm, if you can’t wait a week to see it on BBC1.
I’ve yet to run my interviews with Hermione and Peter.
But I thought you might like to hear some short audio extracts:
1) Hermione on starring in Spooks.
2) Hermione on how the show has changed with the departure of Rupert Penry-Jones as Adam and the arrival of Richard Armitage as Lucas.
3) Peter on now retired spymaster Qualtrough – and a link to James Bond.
4) Peter on Harry’s home life.
