WILL Mellor ended up in tears when he went behind bars for his latest TV project.
The Stockport actor told me about his “harrowing” experience last month filming inside Dodds Prison, Barbados.
Will and the camera crew had to leave the jail each night when the prisoners were locked down.
But they spent the rest of the time inside.
You can read more in Saturday’s MEN news story here.
Some of Will’s quotes and extra details were squeezed out of the story.
He said: “I don’t know what I agree about the prison system and what works and what doesn’t work.
“But I thought I can’t have an opinion unless I go and see it for myself.”
The previous prison in Barbados was destroyed in an uprising three years ago with Dodds built in its place to house some 1,250 inmates.
“I saw it for myself and I breathed the same air – it’s something I’ll never forget.”
Former Coronation Street actress Debra Stephenson and TV star Jack Osbourne are among the other famous faces locked up in jails around the globe for the forthcoming Virgin 1 series.
I spoke to Will at last week’s Merlin launch in London, where we also chatted about his guest role in episode two of the BBC1 drama.
There’ll be more about that soon in the MEN and online.
He’s due to film an eighth and final series of Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps in January.
And that may be followed by a possible UK theatre tour involving the cast.
It had already been a busy week for Will.
He’s pictured above at the TV Quick Awards last Monday night.
On Tuesday evening he was among the lucky ones who saw Stevie Wonder at the MEN Arena.
And then it was on to that Merlin event on Thursday night.
