The Fixer: Andrew Buchan

HE’S hardly recognisable as the man who fell from a tree in Cranford.
But watch out for Andrew Buchan, who played carpenter Jem Hearne in the BBC1 costume drama.
He takes the lead tonight in a new ITV1 drama series – after an impressive performance at the press launch early last month.
The Bolton-raised actor was relaxed, articulate and handled the media like an old pro.
He plays hired killer John Mercer in The Fixer, as you can read in Friday’s MEN interview with Andrew, 29, here.
Some actors are naturally defensive when being interviewed, fearing the press are out to expose them in some way.
Others go with the flow and recognise most of us simply want to report the facts accurately and spark the interest of readers.

Take a potentially tricky question about filming intimate scenes with co-star Tamzin Outhwaite.
Andrew dealt with it expertly, first turning the query into a joke to lighten any tension before making a serious point.
He was also forthright about the BBC’s decision to axe political drama Party Animals after one series.
And he expressed his thoughts on the pressure that comes with the lead role in The Fixer, plus the hard work and dedication cast and crew put in to making a top drama series.

Check out the three audio extracts below.
The Fixer also co-stars Peter Mullan and Life On Mars’ actress Liz White.
While Salford-based Jody Latham – Lip Gallagher in Shameless – plays a petty thief called Calum.
“I’ve never really met anyone quite like him,” reflected Andrew.
“I’ve seen some sights in the north but I don’t think adjectives exist that quite describe him.
“He’s not really essential on set, he’s crucial.”
Andrew is also currently starring on stage at the Donmar Warehouse in London in Arthur Miller’s The Man Who Had All The Luck.
The production embarks on a three-week tour next month, calling at The Lowry in Salford between April 8 and 12 ahead of visits to Liverpool and Cornwall.

Am hoping that we will see more of the incomparable Liz White in upcoming episodes.
By the way, the play in which Andrew is currently appearing, “The Man Who Had All The Luck” was Arthur Miller’s first play to make it to Broadway back in 1944. While it flopped, running only four performances, the playwright was not deterred, and wrote “All My Sons” and “Death of a Salesman” in the following five years.
“Man” was revived for the first time on Broadway in 2002 and starred Chris O’Donnell (“Batman and Robin”) in the title role. In his stage debut, O’Donnell delivered a superb performance as the title character.

Am Really Pleased That Andrew Has Got A Lead Role In An ITV1 Drama. Hopefully This Will Put Him On The ‘Actor Radar’ So To Speak. I Have Loved Everything I’ve Seen Him In And I Know There’s More To Come From This Talented Actor. Plus He’s A Lovely Look Guy – Which Helps 🙂
