IT looks like the end of the road for hit ITV1 drama Life Begins.
Caroline Quentin returns soon as Maggie Thornhill for a third and almost certainly last series of the show.
Created by Bramhall-born Mike Bullen and first screened in 2004, the final six episodes again co-star Alexander Armstrong as Maggie’s husband Phil.
He says: “This is probably the last series as Caroline is pretty insistent that we should stop while we’re ahead, even though ITV wanted us to do a fourth series. I think she talked to everyone on the show about her decision.”
It’s no great shock. Pimm’s TV advert star Alexander – known as Xander to his friends – predicted this would be the farewell series when I spoke to him last year.
As well as moving on to new projects, London based Caroline wants to spend more time with husband Sam and children Emily, six, and William, three. She told me how much she missed her family when away filming at the launch of the very first series of Life Begins in 2004.
Caroline also spent time this year in Manchester making four new 90 minute films in a third series of police drama Blue Murder. Caroline plays Det Chief Insp Janine Lewis (below), who is still struggling to balance the responsibilities of her pressured career with the demands of her family life.
Guest stars in the new season of Blue Murder include Ace Bhati, Tom Bell, John McArdle, Jack Ellis and former Corrie actor Kevin Kennedy.
